
Teviot Contracting was established in 1983, by the current owner Norman Marsh and has been prominently involved in the farming – rural sector occupation of shelter tree maintenance and problem tree removal over the past 24 years and has set the standard for experience and quality workmanship in the specialist field of trimming, topping, felling and portable sawmilling of trees, of every shape and size.
We have recently developed a new topping boom on our 13 ton excavator which allows us to reach 72ft high (211/2m) with a 5 metre telescoping section with a fully rotating and adjustable cutting head, a fully equipped logging type loader (Clark 45c ) for disposing of the debris, with a transporter for each machine.
All gear is well maintained, good track gear, tyres etc. Falcon station wagons are used for transport to and from the job instead of utes & 4WD for comfort and security
- We work in teams of three with each member working in conjunction with each other ensuring a smooth work flow, using vision, communication and comprehension skills, with the opportunity to interchange.
- Working hrs usually 7.30am leave home 7.00-7.30 return, currently, working days are Tues-Fri and Saturday when necessary.
- We enjoy a smoke free workplace, smoking only at meal breaks which are at 10am – 1pm – 4pm
- We are based in the Sunny Central Otago town of Roxburgh with affordable housing and rents of $150 – $200 per week with all the usual amenities.
- Our working area covers all of Otago & Southland regions, with an average of 1 hr travelling each way a day and staying overnight around 30% of the time.
- Remuneration is by mutual agreement based on what value the applicant can add to the company. With profit sharing opportunities on meeting agreed monthly turnover targets.
- You will be responsible for daily care and service of allocated equipment and effect minor repairs and preventive maintenance.
- Be able to operate our range of equipment with care and diligence which includes Treecutter/Topper (tracked excavator based) capable of 21,1/2m 75ft height, logging type 9 tonne wheeled loader, range of chainsaws 20” to 48” bars, portable sawmill,(optional) & Transporters.
- To be able to liaise and communicate with our clients, organise oneself and others when necessary.
Main skills and qualifications to possess are to have good communication and comprehension skills, able to be part of a team and show organisational/leadership skills. good timekeeping and documentation abilities essential Be active- fit, with good eyesight and hearing, show patience, be drug free, have a good sense of humour be reliant and practical.
Enjoy achieving high standards and finish of workmanship to surpass customers expectations , employ safe working practises. driving licences required are class 1 essential with 2-5 preferred with T.W endorsements or ability to achieve these.
Experience in operating excavator – wheeled loader – transporters. Servicing, maintaining machinery would be preferred, but full training will be available to those willing to learn.
